“From the fury of the Northmen deliver us, O Lord.”
"Jarl Ingvar" Linen Tunic
Exclusive Viking tunic with embroidery
Our Viking collection keeps growing, featuring more genuine style clothing from the Early Middle Ages. This exclusive embroidered tunic is made of high-quality natural linen. The tunic's sleeves, hem, and neck opening are adorned with contrasting linen, trim and tiny details that all together create a multidimensional and complex textural and visual masterpiece. The decorative pattern features dragons, which are common in Scandinavian myths. This unique trim was specially designed and made exclusively for our Viking collection. The tunic's design is historically accurate and is based on discoveries made during excavations in Birka, Sweden.
Like many ancient people, the Vikings also saw clothes as having particular meaning. They considered the human's throat a crucial part of the body because they believed it was where the soul leaves when a person passes away. Hence, the Vikings paid extra attention to decorating the neck opening of their clothing. Following this tradition, we adorned the neckline of this tunic with hand embroidery. This type of finishing replicates the techniques used in the past, particularly the Norman embroidery style. Although it requires a lot of effort, the result is impressive and authentic – the mythical creatures guard your neck both at the front and back. The embroidered dragons at the neckline complement the pattern on the trim. The entire neckline and edge of the calves are hand-finished with a thick thread that twists around the rope in tiny stitches, giving evil spirits no chance to get close to you.
