Fantasy Knight Pauldrons“The Wayward Knight”

XIV style pauldrons trimmed with brass.

The Wayward Knight never worries about their past. They’re always looking forward - to the next battle, the next war… their next victory.

These are the pauldrons associated with our new, blackened “Wayward Knight” armor collection, our first full set of blackened armour inspired by the XIV century. These are meant as shoulder protection and consist of a central piece and three lames, all robustly connected via leather straps for articulation. They attach to you via a leather tab with holes, which allows them to be laced onto your gambeson or chest armor with ease. We have also included a large rondel/ besegew that protects your under arm through a large range of motion.

These pauldrons can be described as Central European, and are modelled after those worn in the late XIV century. While these pauldrons are not based on any specific examples, they are very much historically inspired and will look right at home next to any other armor from the XIV-early XV centuries. They are constructed from 1.5mm (16ga) steel.

We have crafted the “Wayward Knight” collection using a newly refined technique in our workshop, chemical blackening. This gives the armor a beautiful, darkened luster, and also protects it from deep rust that could cause structural damage. Keep in mind that in order to achieve this finish we have used mild steel, which will attract a bit of surface rust, so do take care of them accordingly. We can also give these pauldrons a beaten, weathered appearance in addition to the blackening, which looks excellent in LARP situations. If you’re not into the blackened armor, we can also make these pauldrons with plain, unblackened mild steel, or stainless steel. If you like the sound of these choices, keep in mind that we can do two different finishes to them: mirror, which is incredibly shiny, and satin, which will give you a more matte effect. The choice is yours!

The edges of these pauldrons are trimmed with well finished blackened brass edging, which fits in with the blackened aesthetic perfectly. We have made them with robust leather straps, solid blackened brass rivets, and medieval buckles that keep with the theme whilst also being strong and quality.

Don't forget to check out our Wayward Knight full suit of armor.
