“The Wayward Knight” Arm Harness

XIV century Anatomical arm armor

The Wayward Knight worries not about the judgment of others, or what people may say about them. On the road, hungry for combat and ready for the next adventure, they care only for what they carry with them. Sure, life with other people is joyous… but life alone is undeniably free.

Based on XIV century transitional armor, the Wayward Knight takes the best parts of the late XIV and early XV centuries to create a stunning set of battle-ready armor. This is the kind of armor that could be worn on a number of different characters, from a man-at-arms to a wandering knight. It is available in a number of different surface finishes, such as the beautiful hammered blackened steel (pictured), or just plain, unhammered blackened steel. Alternatively, we can also make it in mild or stainless steel, with a satin or mirror polish. Each leads to a different result and is up to you!

These arms are beautifully articulated and ready for combat. Leather tabs at the top of the rerebrace allow for easy pointing to your gambeson, taking the weight off of your elbows and lower arms. A reasonably sized fan protects your inner arm, and a flared, anatomical bracer adds extra comfort around the wrist area. The rerebrace is similar to our King’s Guard collection in that it is not a full-wrap, but it does cover a generous area of your arm and sits comfortably, especially over mail. If you’re not satisfied with the amount of coverage you receive from just the arm harness, you’ll be pleased to know that the matching pauldron makes up for this. Most of this harness is made from 1.5mm (16ga) mild steel, with the smaller, articulated segments made from 1mm steel in the event that you choose stainless steel as your preferred material.

You probably noticed the rich, deep tone to this armor. That is due to a new technique we have recently refined in our workshop – chemical blackening. This process allows for us to weather the steel and achieving this fantastic finish, which really sets this armor apart from our other sets. It’s important to note that in order to achieve this finish, we must use mild steel, so this armor will take a little bit of extra maintenance compared to our usual stainless steel fare. However, the blackened aspect to the steel does provide a barrio between the structural aspects of the steel and the surface, so while you may visually develop a bit of rust, it is much less likely to penetrate and actually deeply damage the armor.

Thought it appears beaten and old, this armor has still been crafted with the usual ArmStreet attention to detail and care. Robust leather straps connect with cast brass buckles, and everything is hammered together with quality solid rivets. The whole armor is trimmed with blackened brass to add a little bit more structure as well as polish off the aesthetic and make this a truly fantastic kit.
