Full Leg Armor Gothic Knight Harness

Articulated XV century cuisses with greaves

Medieval Gothic armor is some of the most beautiful armor to ever exist. Part of what makes it so magnificent, though, is how functional it is. Developed in the later XV century, this style of armor is much more flexible and easier to move in than some of the armor that came in the centuries before it, making it an absolute pleasure for a knight to own. It is very popular among historians and collectors and can be found in historical displays, art galleries, and museums all over the world. But, why see it in a museum when you can wear it yourself, right?

Our fascination with Gothic armor quickly turned into a passion project that has created three sets of gothic armor, this being the most recent iteration from our master blacksmith. After countless experiments, tests, and many, many sword fights, we have finally created the ultimate version of our gothic armor. Well articulated, constructed from stainless steel and aesthetically stunning, this rendition is absolutely the most magnificent thing we have made in recent years!

This listing is for the full leg harness, including full-wrap greaves. The cuisses and knee protection in this set are a little bit different from anything we have created so far, sporting new discoveries from our manufacturing team such as sliding rivets and a striking roped edge. They begin with a leather panel at the top to allow you to point them to your arming belt. From there, the plate armor begins with a roped edge and articulation high on the thigh, making the legs extra great for riding a horse. From there, masterful fluting sculpts downwards towards the knee, which is met with a contrasting plate with fluting upwards, creating a visually interesting clash of patterns. More articulated plates work down to the knees, which are completed with the fantastically large fan that wrap around to protect the side of the leg.

The greaves on this set are truly something to behold. They are full-wrap and anatomically shaped, meaning they should hug your leg perfectly to provide an attractive, comfortable fit. They start at the top of your calf and slope down to fit around your ankle, curving at the top of your foot to ensure it doesn’t dig in. The sides of the greave go down lower to protect your ankle, which is a great detail you won’t find on a lot of armor. The bottom of the greave is finished with a roped edge, and the whole thing clicks together with our new push-pin mechanism which makes them easy to put on.

All aspects of this armor are constructed from premium materials by master craftsmen. Stainless steel is used throughout which makes it rust resistant (unless you choose to have it made from mild steel), with solid brass rivets that have been peened over washers for strong construction. On all leather straps as well as articulated segments, natural leather has been used, with cast brass buckles. The roped edge is made from twisted stainless steel wire, carefully welded on. We are incredibly proud of this piece and can’t wait to share it with you! There is just one more choice to make: mirror or satin polish. These finishing techniques decide what kind of aesthetic the armor will have. Satin polish is rich and matte, making for a more subdued look. Mirror polish is what you see in the photos: chivalric, shiny, and lustrous. It is entirely up to you which style you decide to wear.

Please note that having correct measurements is incredibly important with this armor, particularly in regard to the greaves. Please measure yourself closely, check your measurements, and then take them again to double check that everything is correct. If you have any questions about the process, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
