When many people think of medieval combat, they automatically imagine Western-style knights in shining armor, the kind of Arthurian legends. While we think that those kinds of knights were really cool, a different style has been catching our eye recently: Polish Hussars. According to history, they were revered cavalry fighters who went down in history for their large, wooden frames that resembled wings. We have always had a love of Eastern-European history and armor (being from the region ourselves!), and have taken great joy in researching this fantastic part of armor history and bring it to life.
First and foremost, we wanted to make sure that this armor was functional. We elaborated on our tried and true bestselling bazubands, making a few changes to make them even better to fight in. Once we were happy with how it was performing, we began to look at the image they portrayed - lots of research into Polish design and decoration came from this.
The bazubands are the result of constantly reminding our previous models, and we feel that these truly are the ultimate form of bracers. They’re reliable, comfortable, and easy for you to put on and take off, closing with sturdy hinges on one side and strong leather straps and buckles on the other. The hinges on the outside mean that they are more likely to take the brunt of your attacks, instead of the buckles getting munched up and broken in combat. The back of the bazubands are quite long, extending to your elbow and offering excellent protection of your lower arm.
The decoration on these bracers really stands out. They are completely edged in 1mm thick brass to create a border. It has a scalloped shape, and is etched with a pattern and then blackened to get a rich color. A larger, circular shape accents the middle near the elbow, inspired by polish shapes and design. The brass works very well in combination with the stainless steel, creating a fantastic aesthetic.
