Articulated Stainless Steel Cuisses

It is difficult to overlook the Polish Hussars. Imagine - you’re fighting on a battlefield, and all of the sudden the ground begins shaking with the thunder of hooves. Countless horses appear to fly over the hill, the giant wings of their riders casting shadows of feathers across the dirt. When you truly imagine how terrifying it would have been, you realize that there’s a reason that the Hussars are still talked about today! Renowned for their brutal combat and huge, decorative wings, this was a group of people who knew exactly how to intimidate their enemies. We have always had a deep love of Eastern-Style armor, so we’re happy to be bringing it to life now in one of our collections.

With this collection - and especially with the leg harness - our first priority was engineering something that is flexible, comfortable, and makes you feel confident in a fight. Without adequate functionality and protection, there’s no point in making something that looks good! Once we were happy with how it was moving, we turned our focus to the decorative elements, trying our best to make something that looks opulent and eye-catching. Research into Polish designs and decoration helped us come up with great patterns and ideas to make this leg harness utterly magnificent.

We feel that the photos of this leg harness truly speak for themselves! Never before have we made something quite so articulated and flexible. This style of leg harness was very much a transition from faults and tassets down into a leg harness. You’ll notice that there are abundant lames going from the very top of the leg, all the way down to the knee. Each of these lames is made from 1.5mm stainless steel and attached with rivets and leather to ensure you get the best articulation possible. The knee piece is much more solid and includes a fan at the side to protect the back of your knee from wrap shots and other sword blows. This pair of cuisses have been painstakingly connected together to give you the ultimate protection, so they cannot be taken apart and worn separately (as some other armor allows).

We have used 1mm thick brass to decorate this leg harness. After studying Polish designs and patterns, we etched and blackened the brass to give it a deep, interesting color. A scalloped border adorned with geometric shapes lines the top lame as well as the bottom, really causing the shiny stainless steel to pop. On each and every lame we have also attached etched brass discs, which just add to the opulent look of the leg harness. With this whole piece, we have used high quality, rust-resistant stainless steel, strong leather, case brass buckles, brass rivets, and solid construction techniques to make sure you’re getting the best item possible.
