“The Wayward Knight” greaves.
Calf protection made of steel and leather.
When you see the Warward Knight, don’t automatically jump to disrespect. This is a man who has seen many battles and fought in countless wars. You don’t know exactly where he’s been, and what he’s lost to be here now…
Inspired by some of the amazing armor from the XIV-XV centuries, this new collection - The Wayward Knight - combines genius blacksmithing with a creative passion to create a refreshing, interesting spin on a regular knight kit. This listing includes just the greave part of the leg harness, which is the bottom half, below the knee. We have finished this armor with our fantastic hammered blackened look, which we have only developed recently. If it’s a little bit too unconventional for you, worry not: we can also make these out of plain mild or stainless steel. If you opt for un-blackened, we can finish it in either a satin or mirror polish.
This is our solution to the age-old issue that has plagued remote blacksmiths: the full wrap greave. So many of our customers are dying for a well fitted, full wrap greave, but struggle with complicated measurements and the differing shapes of the human body. While the front of the greave is anatomically shaped steel, the back is completed with large leather tabs that close with two straps. It may not provide as much protection as a complete steel greave, but it is infinitely more comfortable and still provides adequate coverage and gives it a complete, full-wrap look without the trouble. The greaves are handsomely shaped, with the steel at the front dipping down to cover your ankle, and curving to accommodate the natural shape of your foot.
It’s hard to miss the color of the steel in our photos. Through careful experimentation and innovation, we have figured out a way to chemically blacken our steel in a way that looks fantastic. Do keep in mind that this process can only be completed on mild steel, so naturally it will take a little bit of extra maintenance compared to our hardy stainless steel. These greaves are carefully crafted from premium materials, made from 1.5mm (16ga) steel. The slick tone of the blackened steel is complemented by beaten, darkened brass that trims the edges of the greaves. It is all put together with solid brass rivets, quality leather and medieval cast brass buckles.
