“The Wayward Knight” Cuisses and Articulated Knee

The upper legs armor made of blackened steel.

The Wayward Knight is strong, confident, and even feared by some. Sure, he may be kind to you, but think about it – is there anything more terrifying than a lost knight with nothing more to lose?

This collection is an exciting new release for us, combining our expert knowledge of blacksmithing with technical experimentation to create something refreshing and new. Based on our favorite parts of the XIV-XV century, this set is functional, handsome and ready for battle! This listing includes the top half of the leg harness, including the cuisses (thigh armor), and the articulated knee. While we feel that these legs look best in our hammered blackened finish (as pictured), we can also just make them out of plain mild or stainless steel. With satin or mirror polishing, you still have control over what the finished product looks like.

It’s hard to miss the handsome central ridge that goes through this harness, giving it that truly transitional edge. This is the kind of feature that makes it look at home with both XIV century and XV century armor, and will make it a very versatile piece. The cuisses provide decent coverage, hinging around to protect the majority of your thigh, connected with a leather strap. The real beauty of these legs lies in the flawless articulation of the knee – everything just fits together and moves perfectly. We have strayed from historical sources slightly with the fans on this harness: they are quite large to account for the perils of modern fighting, in an attempt to protect you from those dreaded low wrap shots that might go astray and hit your inner knee.

We are incredibly proud of the aesthetics of this kit! Months of experimentation led us to discover this fantastic method of chemical blackening, which gives the steel a deep, rich tone and protects it from deep, structural rust. Because of the nature of mild steel, though, this armor will take more maintenance and care than our hard, rust-resistant stainless steel if you choose to have the blackened finish. The look is completed with the blackened brass trim, all held together with solid brass rivets, cast buckles, and other premium materials such as quality leather. Though the knight who wears this may be lost, we have spared no expense in making sure this is still a luxurious kit.

You are welcome to complete this item with the Wayward Knight greaves or to get the full set of leg harness from our shop.
