Viking Fibulas with Wolves

Pair of etched brass oval brooches

These new additions to our bestselling Viking collection add fresh items that are inspired by old favorites. Fancy new jewelry, as well as warm woolen dresses, coats, and winter accessories will help you complete your wardrobe and be ready for any adventure in any season.

These fibulas come in a pair and are commonly used to attach your apron dress to your overdress - though we are sure you’ll find many other uses for them as well. They’re constructed from brass and have a gentle domed shape to them, with a strong pin on the back where you can attach them to loops or through fabric. Etched details on the front make a knotwork wolf pattern, unique to other fibulas we have created previously.

The pattern etched on these fibulas is ArmStreet exclusive, designed by our team of artists to resemble knotwork wolves. We chose a wolf for these pieces of jewelry because the wolf represents a great, noble hunter that can survive under any conditions. It was a common belief that gods, as well as humans, could transform into animals and vice versa, so many Vikings closely associated their personal identities with animals. Wolves have such strong character, and we know that such patterns will give strength to whoever chooses to wear them. This design has been acid etched into and matches other items, embroidery, and trim in the same collection.

Fibulas and brooches can often be used with looser clothing to provide a better fit - similar to how we would use a belt with jeans in modern times. Jewelry, in general, was very popular with Vikings, used for more than just aesthetic appeal: to show status, for religious significance, to show allegiance to gods, beliefs, and represent their own heritage. It was not uncommon to see similar motifs in jewelry, runestones, weapon embellishments, embroidery, and other designs throughout a Viking's life.

With our fibulas, you can create a marvelous and authentic look and let the power of wolves protect you.
