Woolen mittens are great to complete your winter Viking outfit. This shape is the best as fingers keep warmer when grouped together and smaller surface is exposed to the cold. That’s why people who lived in colder countries began using it centuries ago.
The history of mittens goes back to ancient times. First, they were purely functional items. People wore them when they worked or to protect themselves from the cold. Shepherds, peasants, and soldiers had mittens made of cheap materials to cover their hands. In Scandinavian and Baltic countries, people made their gloves mainly of wool as they had to deal with cold Northern winters. Their everyday activities were mostly outdoor. Vikings built houses and ships, sailed, traded, went hunting and fishing. The weather was not kind to them, and they always sought for ways to feel comfortable under any conditions.
That is why mittens were an important part of their wardrobe. For our Viking mittens, we use the traditional design where we leave space for four fingers and a separate room for the thumb. The main material is wool, you can choose among quite some colors we offer. The mittens are fully lined with faux shearling. It keeps you even warmer and makes an interesting look. Herringbone stitching decorates the part where wool is sewn together. These mittens match our woolen hat making a cool combination for a winter Viking look. These mittens are great. My hands get very cold very quickly in most gloves. I didn't have that issue at all when I was wearing these outside. They are warm and comfortable to wear. Their customer service is excellent. This was part of a larger order and they answered all of my questions. Overall, this was the best experience I've had purchasing made to order clothing items.
