The wait is over - ArmStreet’s children’s collection is here! “First Adventure” is a series of items specifically designed to accompany your little ones on their first foray into the medieval world. As parents ourselves, we know exactly how much fun our children can have at medieval events, and wanted to make a collection that makes it easier than ever before for your most cherished family members to be stylish and comfortable. Though inspired by our bestselling adult pieces, all of the items in this collection are new garments that have been patterned specifically to fit children.

This cape is inspired by the classic shape of cloaks over history. There’s something truly magical about capes and how they make you feel - any medievalist is familiar with that feeling of “something’s missing” when they go back to everyday life after a weekend of wearing medieval clothing... you always miss wearing a cape! We feel that no garb is complete without a cape or at least some kind of similar outer garment, as they add a finishing touch and final layer that really takes an outfit from costume to clothing. A cape is more than just a cool accessory, though - it’s a great way to shade yourself from the sun, hide from the rain, or shield you from the wind. They are amazing, multipurpose items that look perfect with any kind of medieval costume and will always blend into that kind of setting. The real proof is the product testing, though - our kids loved these capes so much that we had a hard time getting them back after the photo shoot because they seemed to magically turn them all into superheroes!

This cape is 3/4 width, meaning it is made from 3/4 of a circle and designed to drape to the ground. Made from robust cotton, this fabric isn’t as likely to snag on branches or pull as easily as linen or another woven textile. It is constructed from four panels of fabric and sewn using all of our expert finishing tricks, including very tidy, strong seams. A tie at the front makes it easy to attach without the need for a sharp cloak pin or other hardware, though if you prefer you can surely add one.

Pay attention to one important thing: most kids, especially when it comes to smaller ones, are used to wearing way softer clothing, which is usually made of extremely soft and stretch fabric. So there is a chance your kid won't be happy dealing with medieval clothes limitations and natural fabric early on. As we experimented on our own kids, statistically all of them get used to this after a while – normally when linen gets softer and shapes a tad on the owner's body. But please be very conscious about it in the beginning and make sure your kid is really comfortable with the medieval costume. We tried our best to make this clothing as comfortable and loose and flowing as possible, but natural fabric and ancient patterns have their disadvantages, so the final decision is on you: we can't guarantee that any kid will be comfortable wearing our medieval clothes.
