Medieval Falchion “Hound Of War”

Stainless decorative falchion sword with etching

Falchion is widely known, popular and beloved weapon among the SCAdians and BotN participants for its convenience and practicality, especially in bugurts and mock-brawls. Shortened blade with a powerful strike force is a perfect weapon for close combat where fencing skills are often violated under the pressure of the crowd and sounds of steel.

Medieval falchion was a melee weapon with a single-edged flared blade, sometimes with a beveled spine. It's kind of hybrid of sword and battle axe: sword handle allows to fence while shifted gravity point makes its chopping blows terribly strong.

Early falchion was best known as 'the last argument of the English archer' - an additional weapon of the bowmen. Moreover, it could be attached to a short shaft to be used as a polearm. In the middle of the 14th century it came into use in cavalry because of its ability to launch powerful slashing blows, able to cut through even a plate armor.

This is a decorative falchion so it's hollow inside though made of stainless steel. Cannot be sharpened. The grip is made of steel wrapped in leather and capped in a round metal pommel. Both the pommel and the blade display floral etching, like the later richly decorated nobility’s falchions. Its spine is fairly straight, meaning it might function as a thrusting weapon when carried by a stout warrior.

Matching scabbard isn't included and might be purchased separately.
