Full Knight Armor “Dark Wolf”

Spring steel chest, leg, arm and shoulder protection armour

Have you heard tales of the Dark Wolf? They’re common in these parts, where his armies rolled through in the dead of night and conquered us before sunrise. I saw him once, standing upon a hill, standing in the tense silence like the grim reaper. He looked at me – I was just a boy at the time - and I looked back to him… and he was gone. No need for words between us, I would say. He showed me mercy that day, and now I speak for him. Why kill needlessly when your reputation will live on, spread by the ones you spared?

Our powerful new “Dark Wolf” Collection speaks for itself – but of course, we’re going to tell you about all of the details as well. This slick, maneuverable harness is built to be protective without sacrificing movement. While some sets of armor hold you back, this one pushes you forward to defeat your enemies and leave bystanders in utter awe. When wearing “Dark Wolf”, we want our customers to feel fearless and untouchable.

This collection isn’t based on any particular extant harness but instead has been inspired by the general XV century time period. A lot of the design inspiration actually came from our female “Dark Star” harness, and after many requests to make something similar for men we have finally launched it! You’ll see aspects of XV century armor – the fitted style and wonderfully articulated joints. We imagine this to be a set that a wealthy knight or lord might own due to the technical difficulty of creating something like this.

Full armour kit includes:

There are four main components to this listing: a breastplate with a backplate, a full leg harness, pauldrons, and an arm harness. If you’re looking for more components to this collection, a gorget, helmet, and gauntlets are sold separately.

Breastplate & Backplate

The first thing you’ll notice about this aspect of the suit of armor is how incredibly flexible it looks – that’s because it is! This is the most articulated breastplate we’ve ever created for men, consisting of many different segments from the chest through the waist, all the way down the hips that will allow you to run, fight, and move like never before. At the bottom of the breastplate are tassets to protect your upper leg, which are riveted on.

Full Leg Harness

The “Dark Wolf” leg harness consists of cuisses with an attached knee portion and greave. The cuisses start at your upper thigh, with a hinge on the outer portion of your leg to attach more protection at the back. A leather strap holds them closed. The shaping around the knee is exquisite – it is pointed to suit the aesthetic of the rest of the piece, with generous fans to protect you from wrap shots and injury to the back of your knee. The greaves extend from below the knee down to the top of your foot, with the side portions dipping down to give some ankle protection as well. Similar to the cuisses, a ¾ coverage back panel is attached with a hinge to give you just a little bit more coverage.

Pauldrons

The pauldrons have a leather portion at the top with holes in them which allows you to lace it onto your gorget, gambeson, or another arming garment. From there, they consist of articulated steel panels that have been anatomically shaped to drape over your shoulder and cover your upper arm. Sword breakers feature at the top which gives it a bit of a fantasy aesthetic, and shield-shaped rondels extend via pieces of leather to protect your armpit area. Please note that by default the shield rondels are plain without wolves.

Arm Harness

The arm harness consists of three main pieces, all of which have been securely riveted together. The rerebrace extends from below the pauldrons, protecting your upper arm. A few articulated lames lead into the elbow cops, which have wonderful pointed fans to protect your inner arm. The bracers that protect your forearms are anatomically shaped and are a full wrap, protecting you from elbow to wrist. Everything is held closed with leather straps and buckles.

Here at ArmStreet’s we’re always trying to improve upon our previous designs and experiment with new materials to make the best products possible. The jump to spring steel was the natural progression for us, and it took a lot of work to master but has been worth it! Spring steel is stronger than mild steel so we can make our armor much lighter, which makes it easier to wear and fight in. Most of this harness is made from 1.2mm spring steel, with some of the smaller segments made of 1mm. Though this would be far too thin for mild steel, in spring steel it creates a solid set of armor that you’ll love to wear.

This harness is a part of our premium collection, and no expense has been spared in making sure that it’s full of little things that make it easy to put on and comfortable to wear, as well as high-quality materials. You’ll notice that parts of it are trimmed in leather to help protect the edges from cutting into you, and fine touches such as blackened steel buckles can be noticed throughout.

The most striking detail of this collection is the mixture of blackened and polished spring steel. Our default option includes blackened with silver accents, as shown in the photos, though there is an option for it to be completely blackened, mirror-polished, blackened with gold accents or mirror-polished with black accents.

Please note that by default, the hooks for the cape are riveted to the cuirass. If you would like the cuirass to be free of standaway elements like those hooks or would like to discuss a more custom option, please contact our customer support.

Please note: this listing includes the cuirass, leg harness, pauldrons, and arm harness. Separately, you can also complete the set by purchasing the gorget, helmet, and demi-gauntlets.

We allow custom golden, black and silver color scheme for this armour — here is the original scheme and the coloring page for your own project. Feel free to download it and send us your own idea when you are ready.

IMPORTANT: To fit correctly and prevent injury, a suit of armour must be accurately built to the measurements of the person wearing it. PLEASE take all measurements over either the gambeson or under-padding you are planning to wear with this armour. The sole exception is for persons buying armour and padding together, ArmStreet will then make the proper size adjustments for the armour based on the measurements provided for the padding.

Medieval Martial Arts are, by their very nature, dangerous and ArmStreet is not responsible for any injuries sustained by persons wearing their armour during the course of such activities. We cannot stress enough the importance of proper training, armour, weapons and knowledgeable supervision during these activities. Ultimately, it is the responsibility of the wearer and their opponent for the safety of the participants.

  • Hunter  19 of November 2022:

A lot of fun to wear, and it’s a real show stopper. Armstreet has done such a great job on this piece and it’s becoming iconic. Every show I have been in, several people have recognized this armor and they all say it’s more beautiful in person. I have had to make a few minor, personal adjustments to accommodate for riding horse back, but as for a relaxing day at the Renn. Faire it’s perfect. 1) I suggest cleaning it after every use. Sweat condensation builds up on the inside of the armor causing rust spots over night. I use gun cleaner/oils on the INSIDE of the armor. 2) I recommend Armstreet’s gambeson for the armor to fit your body properly, and I also recommend form fitting pants to wear underneath. Even with everything going on in the Ukraine, Armstreet made it a point to communicate with me effectively and quickly via email. They are fantastic to work with and extremely accommodating. WORTH EVERY PENNY!

Looks and feels great to wear. It was delivered with some brown residue on some of the pieces but cleaned up well.

  • Alessia 14 of January 2022:

I've already used it in some Larp events and I'm very proud of my armor, it fits perfectly and looks awesome thanks to the precision of the blacksmith in modeling the pieces to fit my measurements. This means, in addition to the comfort and facilitated movement, the weight is also very light. With the cape you designed I feel like Batman or Guts from Berserk XD It's perfect for a faction commander! The steel seems to be of excellent quality, but I'm not a blacksmith or an expert, but the Blackened Spring Steel finish is fantastic, at night with the light of the candles it really makes an amazing effect, but unfortunately it is a bit delicate, so if you don't want to lose that effect, you need to do some maintenance. But I'm sure, for people like me it won't be a problem, it's just a pleasure to polish an armor ;) . I don't know if it is suitable for SCA combat, but I would not wear it, I would not want it to be ruined with a few mace hits XD. Thanks to the possibility of customization, I was able to have the emblem of my group engraved on the rondels, this gives me the feeling of having a unique piece, and that's it! Last but not least, the sabatons you have adapted (the set does not include them) with the look of dark wolf complete the set in an exceptional way and fit perfectly into the greaves ensuring comfort and mobility. So, ultimately it is a beautiful armor and I am very happy I got it!
