“Olegg the Mercenary” Fantasy Viking Leather Armor
Embossed leather vest with buckles
This handsome vest is made from two layers of thick, strong leather. The base layer is plain, and the second layer consists of panels or “scales”, each scale measuring 6.5cm x 9cm (2 4/7" x 3 4/7"). They are arranged in a vertical pattern and are secured with both glue and strong leather thonging to make sure they’ll stand up to light combat. Though this vest does not have a historic prototype and is very much fantasy, we imagine it to be inspired by Rus lamellar. This is a great piece of armor for lighter forms of combat such as LARP or light sparring. The leather is strong but still very flexible, allows a decent range of movement.
This chest piece is adorned with a beautiful viking knot work embossing pattern on some of the panels. The knotwork is neutral and not meant to represent any particular animal, and was created by our talented designers after much research into historic viking ornaments. The embossing runs along most of the perimeter of the vest, including under some of the buckles and along the bottom edge. This vest is open at the front and is closed up by five straps and buckles. The straps are embossed with knot work and attached to the vest via strong leather thonging. They are finished with beautiful hand-cast brass buckles with a viking motif, matching all of the other knot work. On the sides of the vest there are laces that allow you to pull it closed.
You will find a strap and buckle on each shoulder to make sure you get the best possible fit. They are similar to the buckles on the front: each strap is expertly embossed and finishing, and the nice buckles tie the whole thing together.

If I want a chainmail under that armor, should I take de measurement with chainmail or without.

Is this armour available with silver or nickel colored hardware (buckles) instead of brass? Even if it’s not as ornate?
