Designed by parents and tested by kids, our long-awaited children’s line is finally here! We decided that it was time to make a series of garments that will complete your ArmStreet wardrobe and dress the whole family in the same signature fashion and high-quality fabrics that ArmStreet has to offer our adult customers. All of the items in this collection are more than just small versions of our adult clothing - they’re specially patterned to fit little ones properly and be comfortable yet stylish.

This undertunic is inspired by our bestselling women’s chemises. An undertunic is a great piece of clothing because it keeps your outer clothes safe from sweat and gives your child a soft layer of linen next to their skin, which is a kind and gentle fabric. This dress has a practical, versatile design that is excellent for children’s garb because it can be worn with a number of different time periods, from the Vikings to the late Middle Ages. It is a comfy t-shape that a loose but not billowing silhouette, and is made to be worn underneath an overdress. The dress flares at the waistline with the help of 4 gores to give it some extra fabric and movement, finishing near the ankle. The sleeves have gussets under the arms and generous armholes to allow for movement, running, jumping, sword fighting and other kinds of activities. The sleeves come down the wrist and are tapered but not too fitted, and there is a simple tie at the neck that can be easily undone to make taking the tunic on and off a breeze.

It isn’t easy to find linen clothing for children, which is why we decided to make it! We use the same 100% flax linen that you’ll find in all of our adult collection, which has a lovely feel and is a very high-quality textile. Flax linen is a completely natural fiber that loosens up wonderfully with time to a very soft texture that feels very nice next to your skin. It is also naturally breathable, meaning that you’re much less likely to overheat in this kind of fabric than you are in a cotton or polyester tunic. The fabric may appear stiff at first but will become soft with wear and use.

There are a lot of differences between modern and medieval clothing, so we always advise that parents have a conversation with their child about how it’s going to feel before they try on their new garment. Medieval clothing doesn’t have zippers and also doesn’t stretch in the same way that a modern garment would, which at first can be a little bit uncomfortable. The best way to put on this tunic is to put your arms in first to find the armholes, and then “dive” into the neck hole with your head and adjust the tunic. Modern methods of head-first-arms-second will result in your arms becoming stuck!

Pay attention to one important thing: most kids, especially when it comes to smaller ones, are used to wearing way softer clothing, which is usually made of extremely soft and stretch fabric. So there is a chance your kid won't be happy dealing with medieval clothes limitations and natural fabric early on. As we experimented on our own kids, statistically all of them get used to this after a while – normally when linen gets softer and shapes a tad on the owner's body. But please be very conscious about it in the beginning and make sure your kid is really comfortable with the medieval costume. We tried our best to make this clothing as comfortable and loose and flowing as possible, but natural fabric and ancient patterns have their disadvantages, so the final decision is on you: we can't guarantee that any kid will be comfortable wearing our medieval clothes.
