Roman Centurian Decorative Sword

Our new “Cassius” sword marks our first foray into making items inspired by ancient civilizations! When looking for inspiration it was difficult to ignore this utterly classic piece of Roman design. Along with being drawn to the aesthetics of this piece, we also can’t deny how enticing the Roman's ability to keep records and document items is - very few time periods offer such astute records to work from! Ancient documents tell us that the Gladius is one of the two weapons close-quarters weapons of the average legionary. It is a short sword, quite broad and mainly used for stabbing.

Please note that this sword is not functional nor is it meant for medieval combat of any kind. It is meant as a display piece, perfect for photoshoots, cosplay, and other non-violent uses. Because of this, we were able to make the blade itself hollow, which makes the whole sword lighter and easier to mount on a wall or carry with you.

Made from 1.5mm stainless steel welded into a blade, this sword is stunning in its simplicity. Devoid of the usual ArmStreet etching along the blade, we instead chose to focus on the sheer beauty of the form. This is emphasized with a hilt made from Ashwood, which has been sanded to perfection and oiled to be two-toned. Brass has been used sparingly between the blade and the hilt to reinforce the sword make the most visual impact - we feel that overcrowding this piece with adornment would have taken away from the shape of the blade. As a finishing touch, a small brass accent has been added to the bottom of the pommel.

Even though this sword is decorative, it is still made of steel and can potentially be dangerous if you aren’t careful with it! We kindly request that you avoid swinging it around in the presence of friends, enemies, pets or your belongings, for the sake of avoiding injury.

Please note: scabbard is not included. If you love this sword but want something with a little bit more bling, we recommend looking at the matching scabbard - it’s been designed to fit this sword perfectly.
