Viking Helmet “Ragnvaldur the Traveller”
Weathered fantasy viking helmet
The design of this helmet has been inspired by Vendel helms as well as vikings. Though we have taken great creative liberty, we feel it holds a general viking aesthetic and is a part of our Viking collection of clothing and armor. We have taken great care in the creation of this helmet to design something that didn’t exist, but could have!
The majority of this helmet has been made from 2mm mild steel, with the visor cut from 5mm mild steel. The accents on this helmet have been treated to look as if they’re aged or battle worn, a new feature that we have been experimenting with. This is the first helmet that makes use of this excellent new technology, but we do also have matching bracers that have the same look to them. The face place is reminiscent of a helm from the Vendel period in that is has what appears to be an expressive facial expression, with the aventail draping down to look like a beard. It’s quite a striking look which will no doubt intimidate your foes on the battlefield.
You will find more of this weathered steel accenting the dome at the top of the helmet to add more structural integrity, as well as along the bottom of the helmet near where the aventail attaches to create a border. This is an incredibly safe helmet that has been designed to look amazing while meeting heavy fighting formats safety requirements - hidden plates under the aventail extend downwards to give decent face and mouth protection without marring the excellent look of the rest of the helmet. It also includes heavy fighting formats compliant padding inside that is covered with cotton fabric to ensure comfort against your head. It has a chin strap and is ready for combat!
We are very proud of the craftsmanship carried out on this helmet. We have gone the extra mile and used strong rivets, robust leather straps and a beautiful riveted aventail to give this helmet a truly amazing look. The aventail is blackened to match the rest of the helmet and each link is secured with a tiny rivet, making it much less likely to collapse under the blow of a weapon than butted mail.

If I'm using this for SCA combat, is padding already taken into account when I give my measurements.
Hi Nicholas, yes the padding is included by default.
I love this helmat, I was wondering about this piece because I know this helmet is SCA legal but for another group I am in it needs to meet the following: HEAD a. A fully enclosed helm of no less than 14 -gauge steel b. A full faceplate of 14 -guage steel or 16 -gauge reinforced steel c. All seams must be welded or riveted together. d. 1/4 inch of closed -cell foam or equivalent padding is required inside the helm. e. A chinstrap that prevents the helm from contacting the face (when pressure is applied to the grill) is required. f. The openings on the visor shall not be wide r than 3/4 inch in any direction
Hi Justin, yes we can make this helmet to meet all the requirements.
is he only wearing stuff from the ragnvaldur set of items?
Hi, yes the model is wearing the items from our Viking collection.
Can this be use for HMB (ACL in USA) & can the visor cut be 2mm as well?
Hi Jonathan! The helmet is SCA legal and should be good for HMB as well, but I
recommend that you consult with your team captain or local marshal
just in case. The visor is made of 5mm steel, it cannot be made thinner for
technical and safety reasons.
