When trying to figure out which chest armor to use with the Kingmaker Collection, we decided that we wanted to give it something that was flexible, luxurious and comfortable – and good looking, if course. Enter some of the best armor produced in the 14th-15th century, the brigandine. Lightweight and compact in size, this steel plated vest is sufficient to protect your body from blows or the point of a sword, yet maintains enough flexibility for you to to bend over and move without the restriction of a traditional plate chest armor.
Consisting of overlapping metal plates, this brigandine is a highly protective piece of armor that can be worn directly over padding without the need for chain or additional chest armor. This isn’t just a commoner’s brigandine, though - our Kingmaker Brigandine has an attractive profile due to its close fit that conforms to your body shape. We have achieved the snug fit of this amazing piece of armor with hand-cut stainless steel plates of various sizes and shapes, as well as a series of leather straps that ensure you are comfortable. You’ll find robust leather staps with cast brass buckles on the side of this brigandine, meaning your chest and back are completely protected. There are also straps at the top near the shoulders, allowing you to place the brigandine higher or lower on your torso, depending on whichever you prefer and find comfortable.
The main body of the Kingmaker Brigandine is made from beautifully supple genuine leather, and the 1mm overlapping steel plates are held together with soild brass rivets. The brass rivets adorn this piece almost like decoration, but trust is – they’re 100% functional! The stainless steel construction of the interior of this brigandine means that you won’t have to worry as much about rust and time consuming maintenance, as well.
This brigandine is the ideal armor for buhurts and tournaments, and is typical to the kit of a West-European knight in the late 14th-15th century. It is suitable for heavier combat formats such as SCA heavy, BotN, and re-enactment events. Enjoy the custom fit of this beautiful piece of armor, and the benefit of period design!
