Medieval Knight Sallet Helmet “The Kingmaker”

Medieval armor helmet and bevor kit

If you love armor in the 15th century, you must love the sallet! An evolution of the 14th-century bascinet, this helmet is more refined, sleek, and stylish, while still providing a decent amount of protection. From knights to men-at-arms, this fantastic helmet was donned as they marched to war. This style of sallet was often accompanied by a bevor, a piece of neck protection that can be used in a variety of different ways to work with the sallet and keep your neck safe. This listing is for a set of both the helmet and the bevor, which will completely cover you for neck and head protection and make you battle-ready.

This particular helmet and bevor set is optimized for the Society of Creative Anachronism heavy combat fighting. As members of the SCA ourselves, we’re always keen to alter and develop our armor in a way that makes it even better for this style of combat. The dome of the helmet and main part of the neck protection is made from thick 2mm stainless steel, which makes it extra sturdy. Other aspects of the helmet are made from 1.5mm stainless.

Our combination of sallet and bevor is made to be used as a set so it will be no surprise that they fit together perfectly and basically function as one when worn together. The bevor is constructed from 4 parts, with the bottom two plates articulating to provide you with a little bit of flex. The top of the bevor can be locked up with the help of a push pin, or brought down between fights to give you a little bit more breathing room. The helmet is made from two pieces: the main helmet at the visor. Just like the bevor, the visor can be locked up or down.

These pieces are more than your average sallet and bevor; they’re from our premium “Kingmaker Collection”, and are full of luxurious touches. Aside from being made from high-quality, rust-resistant stainless steel, they also feature solid brass rivets throughout and beautiful brass accents that make it fit for a noble. The bottom edges of the helmet and bevor are also complete with a solid roped edge trim, which looks amazing but also reinforces the bottom of the helmet for more structural integrity.

This helmet comes to you pre-padded and strapped and ready for SCA battle, so please ensure you’re giving us the most accurate number possible when taking your measurements.

Can a back of the neck plate be ordered? Or some sort of defense for that? Maybe a longer tail?

    ArmStreet Team:

Hello Ronald, we cannot alter the bevor but you may purchase a sallet separately and have some other gorget for it.

I love this helmet, it still makes me smile after 2 years. It does a great job offering a taste of the helmet that inspired it, the Helmschmid 1495 sallet and bevor looking closed helmet. Armstreet continues to offer fantastic quality and value in all aspects of the workmanship, fit and finish. It is truly a beautiful item. When not in use my wife and I actually display it in our living room as art. It integrates well with my errant squire cuirass. Buyers should expect less head mobility than a normal sallet and bevor because this is a closed helmet and the upper and lower sections are attached to offer more protection/neck support and to close the traditional nose gap. In my opinion Armstreet should offer the option to add sight holes on the nose and chin area like the original Helmschmid helmet. This would help downward sight a lot but it would look less clean and sleek so best left as an option.5/5 Armstreet and best wishes in 2024.
