Medieval Rus Helmet

XIII century Slavic (Kyivskaya Rus') helmet

SCA safety requirements are fare but strict that sometimes robs aesthetical aspect and historical correspondence. ArmStreet is known worldwide for ability to combine those and this XIII century Kyyivska Rus' helmet is just another proof. Historically the helmet dome had a pointy needle at the top but even without it this "safety first" version rings a bell, right? Well thought through design brings us a faultlessly recognisable appearance of Slavic helmet engineered to satisfy all the SCA safety requirements. Brilliant piece of combat armour, it keeps your character's appearance balanced and coherent while all the hidden elements of protection - such as bar grill under the riveted aventail – guards your health. Talking about the usability, this medieval Rus helmet is comparatively lightweight but absolutely functional. Exceptional visibility and ease of head movements play a significant role in a battle, we know this for sure!

The helmet is hand made of reliable 2mm stainless steel which has perfect structural integrity and doesn't require much maintenance as it is rust resistant. One of the most popular armour materials among the SCA fighters, that speaks volumes! The riveted aventail is made of blackened mild steel. Full SCA face protection is hidden underneath the aventail. The helmet comes with padding inside and you can choose the option that suits you better. This head protection is strapped, including a chin strap.

I am interested in the Medieval Rus Slavic Helmet. Does the helmet need an arming cap? If so, do you carry them? How much would an arming cap cost? If they require arming caps, how much does that add to ones' head circumference? When measuring oneself to get an accurate idea of a heads circumference, could measuring around the head at eyebrow level be down with a tape measure? Is your operation here in the US, and how much would it cost to ship to Connecticut?

    ArmStreet Team:

Hi Rich, the helmet is made with inner padding. Head circumference should be measured along eyebrows. Your helmet will be sent from Ukraine as we have our production team located there.

  • Kritonas 01 of February 2018:

Hello, is there any way to get the chainmail riveted at all?

    ArmStreet Team:

Hi Kritonas, yes, riveted aventail costs $60 extra.

  • Brandon Pezzetti 29 of June 2017:

How do I add the cost for the SCA hidden armor for the medieval Rus helmet?

    ArmStreet Team:

Hello Brandon, please simply leave this request in the comment to your order and we will send you the invoice for the extra cost then.

  • Myghal Stanborough 09 of May 2016:

I play in the SCA and am looking to build an 11th Century Rus kit for Cut & Thrust. your XIII Slavic helm with chain aventail fits the bill pretty close. would it be possible to equip that helm with a perf plate protecting the face to meet SCA requirments and maintain the appearance?

    ArmStreet Team:

Hi Myghal, yes it is possible. It costs 20% extra.

  • Natasja Rose 11 of December 2015:

Do you do adjustments for combat archery?

    ArmStreet team:

For SCA you can order this helm with full SCA hidden protection (front, side and back hidden plates) for $50 extra. You can learn more about our SCA-adjusted helmets. Also it can be made with the inner bargrill on the sides and in front of the helmet for $100 extra.

  • Tom Cossins 07 of August 2015:

I noticed in a customer photo that the Eastern European helmet similar to this did not match the photo on the website. The chainmail attached to the nasal and under the eyes was completely different. Is this something to do with SCA protection? I love this helmet and wish to purchase it but since I live in Australia it would be extremely expensive to go back and forthof the helmet is not right. All help much appreciated! Tom

    ArmStreet team:

The customer's helmet was made with full SCA hidden protection (front, side and back hidden plates), that's why his helmet looks different.

  • Roderic 22 of April 2015:

Greetings. I read this helm can be ordered with sca internal plates. In the photos of your sca adjusted helms, i see you use solid plates below the mail aventail, much like the lower part of a greathelm. Is this the only option for inner protection or can i order this helm with an inner bargrill protection for the sides, front and back of the head?

    ArmStreet team:

Can be made with the inner bargrill on the sides and in front of the helmet for $100 extra. But there still will be solid metal plate on the back of the head.

  • Ryan 19 of November 2014:

This is my first time buying here and I'm just wondering how I add the upgrades to the helmet so i see the full purchase price.

    ArmStreet team:

There is no such option at the site, we're working on this now.
Simply add a comment to your order - which upgrade should be added. We'll send an invoice for the extra charge to your PayPal email.

  • Simon Picard 21 of May 2014:

Hi, I'm really interested in your Medieval Slavic Helm Armor . It looks really nice but I have some questions about it. First, I'd like to know if it's possible to wear glasses under it? It's not an option for me not to wear my glasses unfortunately. DO I need to size it differently if I want my glasses to fit under or will normal sizing work? I'd also like to know if it contains any protection to prevent the chainmail from scraping all over my face if I take a hit there? I saw in the description that it has internal face protection, is that doing what I just asked above? Thanks for your time Simon

    ArmStreet team:

According to the SCA rules, ordinary glass lenses are prohibited.
We recommend replace them with contact lenses, or wear motorcycle goggles over the glasses. Then measure your head 1. as usual, along the eyebrows and 2. along the most exposed points of the goggles.
Additional hidden SCA-grade protection prevents from scratching.

  • Rod 26 of April 2014:

  • Tom 02 of August 2013:

Do you sell the rest of the armour in the photos? I will buy it all if you do :D

    ArmStreet team:

Body armor, chain mail, legs are not available, sorry. All other pieces are available in the store: gauntlets, bracers, padding, belt.

  • Jonathan 01 of October 2011:

  • lucarelli9 26 of December 2010:

what's the name of the armour standing over the hauberk?

    ArmStreet team:

    'Yushman'. Russian and Turkish armor

  • Brian Donnelly 13 of June 2010:

Hi My comment is regarding the armour the model is wearing not the helmet. Is that armour called Kalantar or something? Do you make ancient/medieval russian and middle eastern/central asian armour like Kalantar or perhaps either baidana, behkterets or zerstolo armour?

    ArmStreet team:

    It's 'Yushman' body armour.
For custom Russian/Eastern armour please contact us at contact@armstreet.com

  • Todd 19 of May 2010:

  • Soren 03 of August 2022:

I bought the 2mm version, overall it's good, though there are some issues with the helm. I use it for Reenactment and have been fighting in it for about six months, it looks great, the stainless means you can be an all-weather warrior while everyone else is running to their tents to spray their gear. It does have its downsides though, the hidden face plate isn't stainless like the body of the helmet, mine has begun to get surface rust already and that means it needs spraying or painting inside to maintain it, but with the liner riveted in that can be hard unless you want lanolin in your hair after every fight. The chain is blackened and also requires spraying too which is to be expected. This was also marketed as an HMB helmet at the time I bought it, stainless is generally not a great material for HMB, and I see that Armstreet has changed their listing on the site to being SCA-focused. My experience is that even with Reenactment levels of combat, which is mostly training, the stainless hasn't been holding up well even to pulled weapon strikes let alone HMB levels of combat. I got mine on a Black Friday sale, so I am overall satisfied with the purchase, but at full retail, I am not sure this would be the best option for a combat helmet when there are better and more affordable options out there. Armstreet was also super helpful in replacing the helmet that was lost in shipping, so customer service is five stars.

I ordered the medieval rus salvic helmet. 12 Gage 2.5 mm with a Satin polish. Absolutely beautifully crafted helm. It has a internal face guard along with the chainmail. Built to SCA specifications. Absolutely love this and have tested it out. The padding is good, the fit is good. Although I don't know what the strap in the back is supposed to be used for. Very breathable. Would highly recommend if you want this style. Thank you Armstreet

  • Howard Helmer 03 of September 2019:

I ordered the Medieval Rus Slavic Helmet. It is fantastic. The quality of construction is amazing. I ordered the helmet with the SCA protection modifications. This helmet will save me from feeling any hard knocks. I can not believe that I was able to find this much quality for the price. The only negative which I can think of is that the spike on top is a short rounded rod, instead of the spike you see in the advertisement. I can live with it. Armstreet, thank you for a job well done.
