Reenactment Armor Gauntlets

Lamellar armor gauntlets of Slavic design

Great choice for training and medieval fighting. This pretty simple design is typical for early middle ages – Norman or Slavic style. This model features advanced thumb shape: just a slightly deeper dishing of this version's fingertips results in a more closed shape that helps to protect your thumb from a frontal hit. If you need reliable tournament or training gauntlets this pair is a perfect choice. One of the best-sellers in this category, the number of lamellar gauntlets sold by ArmStreet delivered lots of highly valuable feedbacks by fighters from all over the worlds equal to years of user experience. Which in turn contributes to constant improvements of both functionality and ergonomy.

We've updated this popular model recently and now you can adjust the leather strap across the palm for a snugger fit. The extra of the strap is directed sidewards and do not interfere with the proper grip you definitely opt for when it comes to holding your weapon. And another tiny but very important upgrade is small leather loops at the inner part of the wrist. Now you can put on both of your gauntlets in a handy and timesaving manner without any external assistance.

Inner leather mittens are included and riveted above the fingers and a thumb to the metal gauntlet thus your fingers have no chance to leak outside the edge of the lamellar gauntlet. This type of junction also prevents leather inner mittens from riding up and twisting during intense practice or in the heat of the fight. The length of the inner mitten is adjusted to match the clamshells length – no more clumsy overlapping with your arms harness.

Now these combat gauntlets come in 16 ga (1.5 mm) stainless steel, which is rightly considered the most suitable metal for SCA gauntlets. Lighter gauge or mild steel options are available upon request.

What are gauntlets?

Gauntlets are one of the most important parts of medieval armor, from knight armor kits to Renaissance gear to modern swordplay like SCA, HMB, and HEMA. Those who fight with a sword, know that the hand is one of the most vulnerable targets. Also, for effective sword fighting, you often need a lot of mobility, which makes the task even more complex. ArmStreet is known for our gauntlets, from simple but well-thought-out and tested by generations of sword-fighters, like the present design, to more sophisticated finger-gauntlets armor like these hourglass finger-gauntlets.

Please contact us if you have any additional questions.

Important note about measurements: please take into account that we need your measurements in padding gloves or other under-armour gear you are planning to use with these gauntlets. The only exception is when you are ordering gauntlets with inner gloves from our company — in this case you can provide your bare hand measurements.

  • Tim 25 of January 2019:

Does the mesument include the padded gloves?

    ArmStreet Team:

Hi Tim, padded mittens are included to the set so the measurements should be taken whithout any gloves.

  • Jaron 17 of January 2019:

I have a question regarding HEMA grappling. I'm interested in order a pair of these gloves but my HEMA instructor said that some metal gloves would be dangerous to use in grappling because they might cut or other wise cause a lot of harm to your opponent. So I'd really like to know if you have any information on this. Look forward to hearing from you and have a great day.

    ArmStreet Team:

Hi Jaron! These gauntlets are not suitable for HEMA, unfortunately. Please consider these ones instead: The Kingmaker Gauntlets. The cuffs can be altered for HEMA requirements (if needed).

  • George 01 of July 2018:

Would these be fit for hema longsword practice?

    ArmStreet Team:

Unfortunately, they are not suitable for hema longsword practice.

  • Jose 27 of May 2018:

I love the gauntlets but i was wondering what kind of glove it comes with and if you could change the brown leather to black leather

    ArmStreet Team:

They come with mittens and yes, leather color can be changed to black.

  • Tom 25 of April 2018:

Is it possible to get these made with an unpolished finish?

    ArmStreet Team:

Hi Tom, yes we can make them with satin finish.

  • Tristan 20 of February 2018:

Is it possible to have the knight of fortune engraving on these gauntlets? I have the near full set of knight of fortune which is amazing and I want a more complete gauntlet than the matching demi-gauntlets

    ArmStreet Team:

Hi Tristan, yes it is possible. Please contact our support team for the price.

  • Gavin 16 of October 2017:

Do I have to order the padded mittens separately, or are they included?

    ArmStreet:

    The inner gloves are included.

  • Jessica Patterson 16 of November 2016:

If we order these with the optional inner gloves, are the gloves also made to our hand measurements or do they come in standardized sizes? Are the gloves padded or plain leather?

    ArmStreet team:

We produce the gloves in a few fixed sizes, if you order the gauntlets in custom size, we`ll choose the size which will fit you best. The gloves have special soften padding.

  • Kenneth Morock 09 of November 2016:

I think I ordered the $159.00 ARMOR GAUNTLETS FROM YOU BEFORE BACK IN 2011 AND i NEED A NEW PAIR. Do you still have my custom size, or do I need to do that again for ordering. Thank you, Kenneth Morlock aka: skybirdme@aol.com

    ArmStreet team:

Nice to hear from you! Please resend us your measurements. Also please note, now the gauntlets are also available in fixed sizes, so they can be sent to you right away. You can find the size chart for the gauntlets here.

  • Owen Durham 30 of August 2015:

Are these products manufactured in the U.S. or Canada? If it is the U.S., how much less will shipping be to nationally in the U.S.?

    ArmStreet team:

Shipping rates are equal for all states/countries, since we have headquarter in Milwaukee, but support and manufacture are located in Ukraine. All items are made here, and sent directly from Ukraine to the customer's country. That’s why shipping is quite expensive.

Unfortunately we're unable to lower the shipping costs for these items any further, sorry. There is no handling charge whatsoever on our items, the cost you pay is the amount we pay to send a package of that weight to an international location.

  • Shawn Davidson 14 of February 2015:

I was wondering if it is possible to order these gauntlets along with fitted inner leather gloves like with the "SCA Metal Gauntlets Functional Etched Armor". Thanks

    ArmStreet team:

Yes, inner leather gloves can be added for $20 extra. Please add a comment to your order, we'll send an invoice for the extra charge to your PayPal email.

  • Stephen Peacock 30 of January 2015:

Hello, is there any chance of having them made with a different colour leather? possibly white?

    ArmStreet team:

White leather is not an option for armour, sorry.

  • Andrew 04 of November 2014:

How do I upgrade to stainless steel? There does not seem to be an option box on this page or my checkout cart.

    ArmStreet team:

Please add a comment on your order, we'll send an invoice for the extra charge directly to your PayPal email.

  • Adam Uglum 28 of October 2014:

Hi there! I already own a set of these gauntlets and love them. I was just wondering if you could produce these gauntlets in 4130 spring steel. If I could just buy the un-assembled gauntlets, shaped and formed in 4130 spring steel, I can temper and assemble them here for my use. Love the design of these, just want something lighter and that will hold up to full contact fighting. These could be made in 20ga ( .9mm) and, after tempering, would hole up nicely. Probably weigh less than a pound per hand. If you have access to 4130, or 1050 spring, these would be much easier than stainless to shape. I would love to have these in much lighter material. Thank you! -Adam

    ArmStreet team:

We don't use spring steel and steel thicker than 2 mm to date, sorry.

  • guillaume picard 09 of July 2014:

Slavic clam shell mitts, means no more missing thumb nails or bruised knuckles for me :-)) we have 3 x pairs of these on our combat group now and the hand injury % has gone to zero. As always , Armstreet puts a pretty good all around quality piece of equipment. Titus Aelius Lucanas, Dux Conroi et vagabond

  • Matthew D. Toje 07 of March 2023:

The Slavic style clamshell gauntlets work well. I purchased the medium size, for which my hands fall into the large for finger length and medium for girth. I found the gauntlets more round than when I make my own (I am getting lazy these days), therefore I flattened them out a bit, and they fit better. For great construction, stainless steel, and you guys are in the middle of a war, these are great. Dr. Matthew D. Toje

  • Guest 26 of November 2022:

They work great ! Thank you

  • Shawn Thirlwell 29 of August 2022:

Wanting to order the Medieval Clamshell Armor Gauntlets Updated lamellar gauntlets, Slavic style; does the gauntlets come with gloves (thus a bare hand measurement required)?

    Armstreet team:

Hello, Kevin! Yes, they come with gloves, a bare hand measurement required.

  • Hunter Barnes 27 of February 2021:

Awesome gauntlets, comfortable, great protection. My only issue has been a popped thumb articulation rivet... easily replaceable, it probably wasn't set all the way. 10 out of 10

  • Ben 21 of May 2020:

Gauntlets purchased for longsword practice and for one-handed sword/shield combat. Aesthetically, they're super. From a practical point of view, it takes a little time for the leather of the mitts inside to relax and for the weapon to get a good grip. Once this step is over, they're really pleasant to use. They provide excellent protection (at least for AMHE steel sparring and re-enactment combat). The only downside is that the steel marks easily. In short, a great purchase with which I'm extremely satisfied :)

  • Kelly Eckert 30 of October 2019:

These are amazing. The quality is top shelf. Delivery to Australia was quick and without hassle, faster than the snail mail we put up with in country. I have been waiting for 4 years to own a pair. I am so happy I choose these. Fit is perfect. Testing was fine, felt the hit but no transfer to skin. I am buying all my gear from Armstreet from now on.

  • Kyle Koski 27 of August 2019:

Worked great at practice for rattan combat asked for a few hits just to test them and they felt great.

  • DARREN HUETT 01 of August 2019:

An intelligent and well made set of gauntlets. 10/10

  • david 14 of June 2019:

My gauntlets arrived today and they are great! Good fit, nice looking and superb articulation. I'm extremely happy and will buy from armstreet again in the future. I would strongly recommend these.

  • Tristan 29 of October 2018:

Honest Review of these gauntlets so prepare yourselves, first off I would like to state the FACT that these are dirt cheap for a stainless steel gauntlet that has a liner included, they will protect your hands and I have taken some quite hard hits and I did not have my hands broken (I'm in the SCA), it stung a little to have a two handed sword hit my hand. The only place I would possibly see someone getting hurt from a hit would be a hit to the thumb as the plates there are very small but give amazing moviblity, so your choice. The only problem that I have had with my pair is that the thumb is not enclosed so there are times where I find my thumb has slipped a little past the plates, leaving my thumb exposed but that may just be my pair, but the thumbs are not enclosed bottom line. The weight of these gauntlets are very reasonable for clam-shell gauntlets. I have a pair of 16 gauge fingered gauntlets that are almost a half pound more on each hand so they are very reasonable on weight. I have used these gauntlets in a wide array of hilts and I would like to inform some SCA people that most basket hits are too small for these gauntlets, they are not giant but they are full gauntlets. For mobility these are the best your going to get unless you go fingered or demi-gauntlets. I have also taken shots to the wrist, lots of shots and I have hardly felt them at all. Overall, for the price and the quality I will have to give these gauntlets a 8.5/10 and that is only because of my issue with my thumb slipping out sometimes, but if that's just my pair they are a 9/10 for sure. I would recommend these gauntlets to ANYONE that is going to be using weapons that you cant use a basket hilt for (or you just hate them like me), again your not going to find any better for the price.

    ArmStreet Team:

Thank you, Tristan! We are working on the design improvement to protect thumb better. We appreciate your feedback!
