This helmet is a special one for us, as we have been wanting to make it for some time. Here is the background story and the explanation.

There is one significant difference between how we do sword-fighting now and what it was like 500 years ago. Despite the huge distinction between fighting for your life and sports, the safety standards have essentially changed. Modern-day helmets, used in SCA, bohurt, HEMA harnischfechten, are designed to meet the standards of “staying completely safe” rather than serving as a survival tool. When armored knights were a brutal and practically unstoppable force on Late Middle Ages battlefields, a lot of people wore what they were able to afford, also depending on their status and role in the battle. Therefore, many museum and historical helmets are way smaller and have less padding than modern combat beasts.

So, we always wanted to create a couple of helmets that look authentic, even though they are only suitable for LARP and non-fighting reenactment. But they look good and feel right.
