Errant Squire Leg Harness
Basic XV Century articulated knee and cuisses
The Errant Squire knew that he was destined for bigger things, which is why he always worked so hard. There’s nothing a knight appreciates more than an astute, hardworking squire, so that’s what he would always strive to be. Sure, occasionally he would be caught in a daydream, imagining the valiant man he would one day become… But for the most part he was studious, clever and reliable. His knight knew he would one day be a great man.
The Errant Squire Collection is made to be a great basic choice for anyone looking for a well built, solid piece of armor without any fancy etching or embellishments. We’ve made these legs from 16ga (1.5mm) stainless steel, as well as 18ga (1mm) stainless for where the articulated plates overlap. They’re built to take a beating and are ideal for SCA heavy combat. As an added bonus, stainless steel is rust resistant and easier to take care of than mild steel, meaning you can spend more time fighting and less time at home polishing it up. A quick wipe down with a dry cloth will ensure this armor stays beautiful and shiny. We’ve also used the same premium materials on this set that we would for any of our fancier sets. A close look will reveal sturdy leather straps, solid brass rivets, cast brass buckles and the same attention to detail we’d put into a more ornate set of armor.
An attractive central ridge gives this harness a clean profile and sleek look. The cuisses consist of three parts to provide the best fit possible, leaving you with a decent amount of flexibility and still giving adequate protection. We have reinforced the hinges more than in previous models to ensure the armor won’t cave in and will remain robust in combat. A thick piece of leather at the top gives you adequate space to point the harness to your arming belt or pourpoint, while a series of leather straps keeps it attached to your leg. A large, shapely fan looks amazing and also provides the side of your knee with great protection. Flawless articulation around the knee means you’ll lose very little of your range of motion, and will be able to lunge, run, and execute your usual footwork. In general, this is just an excellent basic leg harness.
If you love this leg harness but are looking for something a little bit flashier, we recommend taking a look at our “Paladin Collection”. It shares the same sleek, streamlined design and excellent articulation but has added etching and other ornate details.
