This hood is designed to go with our “Townswoman” Collection, but we have no doubt that our creative customers will be able to work it into other costumes. All of the designs are feminine, simple, and even though they look wonderful together, they all standalone as great accessories to bolster any medieval wardrobe.
A hood is a perfect accessory to add when you feel like your costume is missing something. Maybe you’re just a little bit cold, or maybe you feel like you need something more to decorate around your face. Regardless of the situation, a hood is sure to solve your problems!
This hood is very similar to a late 14th century “London” style hood. It has a deep hood that can be flipped back from your face to frame it nicely, and a long-dangling liripipe that trails behind you. In medieval times, liripipes were actually a creative way of showing your wealth – a long liripipe denotes that you have extra funds to spend on frivolous fabric. If you’re unsure what to do with such a long tail, we recommend tucking it into your belt.
This hood is made from 100% flax linen, with a solid color on the outside and a contrasting color on the inside. Linen is an amazing natural textile that’s been used for thousands of years, and is renowned for its ability to wear in beautifully and over time becoming softer and even nicer to wear.
The hood does up at the front with a row of copper buttons that go from the bottom of the hood up to the top of the face closure. Instead of buttonholes, we have found a way to securely attach waxed cord into the lining of the hood, which comes out as little button loops.
