Socks were originally created to help prevent feet from chafing on uncomfortable medieval shoes. They provided additional comfort while also having the added bonus of being warm. Socks themselves are also very useful and are a great utility item. They can be small coin pouches, hand warmers, and many other things in a pinch! That’s the reason you can never bring enough socks.
The socks are knee high and are made from 95% cotton and 5% elastane. This means that they are comfy and stretchy without being itchy or irritating. They are knitted with a nice visible texture, and are quite thick, and will go with basically any style of medieval clothing with ease.
There is a long history to socks, dating back millennia! They have taken many forms, including sewn wool hose and naalbound slippers, through to the modern socks of today that most of us wear on a daily basis.
