Medieval Halberd Gauntlets

Gauntlets for halberd and basket sword

Functional 16 ga mild steel gauntlets for polearms and basket-hilt swords. These gloves are specifically designed with people in mind who prefer to use pole weapon or rely on the extra protection of the basket-hilt. The overall gauntlet design should be attributed to the mid-XV century and derives from the famous “hourglass” design.

While offering good protection, classical “hourglass” gauntlets have their dexterity limitation. Later models with the fingers made of the smaller scales usually provide better dexterity but either for the price of vulnerability to crashing blows or for being overly complex (and thus very costly). However, the leaf-like extension of the back-hand part of this metal gauntlet provides solid protection while the hand is closed to a fist — and scale design of the fingers ensures excellent dexterity. And for the SCA warriors, these gauntlets in combination with basket-hilt are offering almost ultimate protection. This simple but effective design was extensively tested in various combat situations with all types of practice and combat weapon — rebated steel, rattan or carbon-fiber.

Perfect for reenactment, SCA heavy weapon, HEMA/WMA fighting etc. This is a perfectly simple and sturdy fighting armor which holds and protects well and will honestly serve its owner for years.

What is the role of metal gauntlets in medieval armor?

Metal gauntlets have been a crucial armor component throughout history, maintaining the balance between protection and mobility. These armor pieces are a pinnacle of armor-making craftsmanship. Hands are one of the most vulnerable and vital body parts in combat, and often a primary target for opponents. Over time, metal gauntlets evolved from simple, functional designs into sophisticated works of art that reflected the technological advancements and cultural values of the society where a knight in shining armor represented the most feared, respected, and powerful human character.

I am asking about custom sizing for Metal Gauntlets for Medieval Halberd and Basket Sword. The individual is female with small hands. Are you able to properly re-size your pattern and gloves size based on your required measurements table? I find manufacturers have difficulty in adjusting their patterns for smaller size. I have not been completely happy with other products ordered from you, so I want to know if this order is something you are willing to make a good effort on. Please confirm. Thank you

    ArmStreet team:

Can be made for small hands. Please mention that gauntlets are for a woman in a comment to your order.
