Deep flax linen hood

Dedicated to their spiritual work and passionate about pursuing a monastic way of living, Monks were a staple in many different medieval religions. Looking back at history, they were a common fixture in the actual creation of manuscripts and production of art, often spending years perfecting their lettering and artwork in order to document life and put the thoughts of others on paper. This hood is from our collection of what we imagine a medieval monk may have looked like, based on a number of touchpoints such as historical drawings and references, as well as – of course – our own creativity!

This outfit is not an exact historical replica or a piece of reenactment gear, but instead a re-imagining of what we think a generic monk would look like, suitable to be used for a variety of religions, both real and fictional. This particular listing is for just the hood, though we also have a whole costume available, which includes a hood, robe, bags, and tabard for a complete look.

A hood is a perfect way to finish a costume and add layering and texture. Not only do they protect you from the rain, but they also make an excellent shield from the sun, putting another layer between you and UV rays. Our monk hood is quite large, draping over your shoulders loosely without being too tight. To put it on, you simply pull it over your head and secure it with a piece of twine. As with all hoods, it can be worn up or down for two different looks.

Our monk hood is crafted from two layers of 100% flax linen, an absolutely stunning fabric that can be both insulating in the winter and breathable and cool in the summer. This amazing textile has been used for a number of civilizations for millennia and is still seen in modern fashion today.
