“Dark Star” Wool Gambeson Sleeves

If you aren’t ready to commit to a whole gambeson but are in serious need of padded arms, these gambeson sleeves are a great place to start! Having just your arms padded means that you can stay cool and collected in the warmer months, without covering your core in fabric and overheating! We love how XIV-XV century padded armor was fitted, quilted and flattering, and have been heavily inspired by this beautiful aesthetic when creating this design! Starting from the shoulder, this gambeson is padded all the way down to your wrist. At the wrist, there is a split up the forearm to make sure you get the best fit under armor. The bodice of the crop top is made from cotton and not padded, allowing for easier movement and better heat regulation on your torso. It is patterned to the female figure and fits well over the bust with the help of darts, and when combined with one of our gambeson vests will give you double the shoulder padding for extra comfort. The crop top is split at the middle and laces up with the help of metal eyelets and cord to help you get a snug fit. The metal eyelets mean that it won’t bulge under your other garments and will instead sit nice and flat.

We chose to craft this padded armor from wool and cotton because they are natural, versatile fibers that are perfect for cooler climates. Wool is a fantastic insulator, but is also still breathable, and softens up nicely with wear. Over time, this garment will mold to the shape of your body and become even more comfortable. The batting in the middle of the gambeson is also natural fiber, and we have provided just the right amount of padding to give protection without overheating you. We have maintained our signature attention to detail with this item, including contrasting cotton borders, flattering quilting patterns, and perfectly welted seams.

Though we love these sleeves on their own, they are best paired with one of our “Dark Star” gambeson vests - we have a number of different materials for you to choose from, including canvas, linen, cotton, and of course, wool.
