We've been thinking about HEMA-oriented swords for a long time and started testing our first sabers and small swords in sparrings and later in tournaments at the beginning of 2022, but the war in Ukraine interrupted our plans. But, long story short, we are happy to reveal our first humble work of art. This small sword is assembled on the well-known musketeer blade from our partners, but the handle and the guard have been completely redesigned to make the best possible tool both aesthetically and in terms of how it feels in hand. The balance is very decent – the guard is made of tempered spring steel, so it is lightweight and sturdy. The final finish is exquisite, with two options available: a gold (brassed) and a blackened one.

This sword is a pleasure to play with. It's light but still feels like a decent thing, and the heavy-duty handle and disassembly construction allow you to replace a blade if necessary by yourself, while the whole construction is simple and sturdy.

From the historical perspective, the small sword, also known as the court sword, is a weapon that has a very prestigious history. Originating in the late 16th century, the small sword became popular in Europe during the 17th and 18th centuries. It was the weapon of choice for gentlemen and nobility, often worn as a symbol of status and fashion, and took an honorable place between heavier Renaissance period rapiers and a predecessor of modern sport fencing. Also, this weapon was very popular historically as a practice weapon, so we see a lot of mentions and treaties describing the technique.

The small sword was characterized by its slender blade and simple hilt, making it lightweight and easy to maneuver. It was primarily used for thrusting and was considered more of a symbol of social status, though it was also a personal everyday weapon.
