Practice Rebated Steel Tournaments Viking Sword

    (Circa VIII-IX)

One of the most classic early swords for training or rebated steel free-play. Both blade and cross-guard of this sword are based on early Viking Sword types. The blade has classic wide fuller following for the most of the blade's length (which reduces blade's overall weight and increase its' lateral rigidity without compromising its strength) and relatively large pommel which is quite typical for the swords of this period.

Blade has linear taper from guard to the point in both width and thickness dimensions insuring perfect balance around 8 cm (3”) from the cross-guard. Such balance provides powerful blow for this medium weight sword in combination with reasonable maneuverability. Blade shape is close to the later European arming swords though the sword overall is a little bit havier. This would have a perfect sense for the practice sword – to build-up necessary strength – or as a tournament sword for a well fit fighter: one would need slightly more energy to accelerate the blade into an attack which, in its' turn, will be compensated by more powerful blow and the advantages in creating powerful parry.

The sword's blade has a heat treatment grade sufficient for the long life as tournament weapon but less then it's necessary to make it sharp. For ethical and legal reasons we are providing swords for sport usage only, not a weapon!

How long is the grip on the sword between the pommel and guard? I've had trouble comfortably fitting my gauntleted hand into Viking swords in the past.

      ArmStreet team:

The grip is 105 mm long.
