Renaissance Corset with Skirt

Florentine style undergarment set

The Italian Renaissance undergarment corset is made of two layers of white dense flax with 13 corset bones imitating the whalebone used in those times. Dresses of the period featured short-cut bodices and the silhouette was later named an "Empire style".
However, the undergarment comes down almost to the waist and is laced on the back with the staylace.
The foundation garment is meant for peak lacing of the upper part of the stature under the dress. Corsets of the period still had no sideways bones, casings, or "underbust" cups. It stays flat. The low neckline allowed the bust to be halfway released to make it easier to breathe, on the one hand. On the other hand, that allowed to partly nude tempting curves, showing through the zephyrian semitransparent silk or linen muslin of the chemise.
Since the corset was worn next to the skin from considerations of modesty we attached a not quite historically correct white linen skirt. In this listing, the skirt is included in the price.

Historically, the Renaissance corset was a symbol of wealth and status. It was worn by noblewomen and members of the royal court and was meant to accentuate a woman's figure. To some extent, renaissance corsets changed the way people of the era were wearing their undergarments and, eventually, changed the way people were looking

  • Millie 25 of April 2019:

What dresses/costumes does this best go with?

    ArmStreet Team:

Dear Millie, it will work with any dress you like, but initially it was designed to be worn under this chemise and dress

  • Natasha 02 of April 2019:

Hi there, is this corset/skirt combo able to be worn with the 'princess in exile' dress??

    ArmStreet Team:

Hello Natasha, yes of course. However, the corset will be seen under the V-neck of the dress.

  • Samantha 07 of February 2017:

Can the skirt piece be custom ordered to be shorter than full-length?

    ArmStreet team:

The custom length of the skirt is possible, just let us know the overall length from waist to bottom hem in the comments to your order.

  • Katie 12 of October 2016:

Hello, can this corset be worn with The Accolade set? I'm worried about not having enough support up top with just the chemise and dress. Thanks!

    ArmStreet team:

The corset cannot be worn with the Accolade set, as the corset has high waistline while the Accolade dress conversely has a low waistline. You can combine the Accolade chemise with a seamless deep plunging bra.

  • Dani 22 of September 2016:

hi there! i'm interested in purchasing this corset and skirt combo but i need it by Halloween. is it at all doable? i see they are made to order. how soon can you have it done by October 27? thank you! Dani

    ArmStreet team:

Manufacturing of the set normally takes 27-31 days, we could rush it a bit, so if you order today it would be ready by October 20. Then we can send it via UPS express mail for $15 extra which takes up to 5 business days to deliver.

  • Alix Primeau 03 of September 2016:

Dear Armstreet, I really love the style of this corset and skirt set. I am getting married at a medieval festival next summer and have been looking for the perfect dress. I want something like how this looks in the images you show. Would I be able to wear this as a dress or is it very obviously underwear? Would you also be able to add extras to it, such as embroidery as I also love the gold embroidery on your White Velvet Wedding Dress “The Accolade” Many thanks

    ArmStreet team:

We wouldn`t recommend this kit as a separate dress, it is obviously underwear and may look strange worn as a dress. As an alternative, we would recommend you to check our Kirtle Corset Dress. It can be made of White linen, but as White linen flax is really thin, we would recommend to make it of White cotton. This way it should look great and keep its shape well. The embroidery must be designed specially for the dress.

  • Jennie 28 of May 2016:

Hello, can the corset be worn with the Autumn Princess Dress? I am worried that the back of the corset will come up too high and show. Thanks!

    ArmStreet team:

The back of the corset should not be visible, but please note we don't recommend such a combination for the sizes bigger than our size 6 (bust bigger than 38.5 in or 98 cm, and waist over 33 in or 84 cm), because the corset will push the breasts up and the bust darts on the dress will be much lower than they should be.

  • Andrea Adams 23 of February 2015:

Hi! I'm wondering if this underskirt is full enough to be worn over an A-line hoop cage crinoline. Do you by any chance have any measurements for its fullness? Many thanks!!

    ArmStreet team:

This skirt is not meant to be worn with crinoline, as it became widespread much later. This set belongs to the 15th century approximately.

Skirt bottom circumference is about 6 yards.

  • Frances 02 of December 2013:

It looks like the skirt in this Florintine style corset is detachable. Is that the case? If so, how does it attach / detach, and is the closing mechanism separate from that of the corset?

    ArmStreet team:

Yes, the skirt is detachable. The skirt is laced up to the corset - there are a number of small metal loops both on the skirt and on the corset. The kit comes laced.

  • Guest 24 of August 2022:

Beautiful, comfortable, and excellently built. I can find no fault whatsoever with the materials or construction, this is an exceptional piece!

  • Dempsi Filipek 16 of June 2021:

WORTH THE WAIT! This corset dress is perfect, and I am in love! This fits perfectly to my measurements, thanks Olga for the kind customer service and answering my questions promptly. I was worried about the armholes on this dress based from other reviews, and Olga helped me measure correctly so this would not be an issue. I got the "Natural" color, and the craftsmanship and fabric quality is impressive. Worth the investment, and worth the wait for shipping too (took about 1.25 months from the time I placed the order for the dress to arrive - did not use express shipping). This dress is everything I've dreamed of so excited to wear it! Thank you ArmStreet! Will be purchasing from you again.

  • Brenda 26 of July 2020:

I recently received mine and hoo boy do I love it! It's very easy to put on by myself but I do need someone to tighten it to my liking. Material wise it's 10/10 and style wise Also 10/10. I tried it on and it's actually very comfortable to be walking around and sitting in it. It's super pretty in it's own and I highly recommend it.

  • Adélaïde 12 of May 2020:

I am amazed by the quality and the details of the dress ! It’s truely a professional finish :) Sadly the straps are too loose for me. by shortening the straps it will fit perfectly, I just need to find a way to make it in a pretty way!

  • Angela 03 of March 2020:

The linen is very high quality and the seams feel solid and sturdy. The straps were slightly loose on me but overall the fit was good. Only thing is the skirt clasp came undone but that's easily hand sewn back on. The fabric is strong yet very breathable.
