“Green Sleeves” Medieval Dress

Noblewomen's XIV century woolen dress

When the dusk comes down and the shadows play, it’s time for the secrets to be revealed – her heart is cold, there is no love in it. Even being a king, as it’s sung in a ballad “Greensleeves”, won’t help you to win the heart of fabulously beautiful lady in the red wine dress. In vain he fought for her, gifted with precious stones and splendid cloth – all day through she walks in beauty, like the night, deeply sank in her sweet dreams of romantic heroes and heroines, and would never turn her eyes up at him.

Cruel thing, she might be called – who knows! Her heart might have belonged to the knight, who once had given a symbol of his love to hold close to the heart - the book on tragic story of Tristan and Iseult burning passion. All her figure is wrapped in mystery and there is one more hidden in her elaborate medieval dress

Silhouette, dress elements and fabric details

The dress from the second half of the 14th century, made of the finest woolen cloth, enchants you from the first sight - deep red wine color of the gown contrasts with the emerald green sleeves and gives an impression of accomplished sophisticated look. Wide scoop neckline, richly embroidered with beads and bugles, elegant low waistline and tight-fit side lacing make it an ideal choice for those who appreciate a balance of noble modesty and a tiny hint of intriguing allurement.

Off the cuff you will never discover the true essence of the gown! It is hidden in the long, regular-fitting sleeves with the copious amounts of minute buttons. Sleeves are attached to the dress with the linen lace, as it was common for noble women clothing from that time.

The wide floor-length skirt, with four additional godets, is about 6.5-7.6 yards (6-7 meters) in length of the hemline and allows you to move freely, whether you decide to slip away to the romantic date or ride all day long in the thickest of the forest. So called “hell windows”, trim-finished cut-outs on the skirt, in which hands are passed through and the front of the skirt is held up, will certainly help you to fulfill the most adventurous and daring undertakings.

Now, all the mysteries have been unveiled apart from one – who is that fairy lady in sumptuous dress? The answer is up to you…

What colour chemise is the model wearing - natural or white? Also, how far off is aquamarine from the green of the sleeves on the model. Is there another garment with the aquamarine wool modeled for comparison?

Hi! I've got a question about the Medieval Woolen Dress Green Sleeves. I saw that it has side lacing and I was wondering how difficult that is to get on. Is it feasible to do by yourself or do you need another set of hands? Is it on both sides or just one? Thank you!

    ArmStreet team:

There is lacing on the both sides of the dress, it's composed of narrow-meshed small fabric loops. First time wearing a dress you may need outside help to lace it up, but soon you will get used and will be able to make it yourself.

  • Kira 30 of December 2014:

I'm in love with the style of this dress, but I was wondering if I could get a rough estimate of how much it would cost if it were sleeveless and made of flax? It get's a bit too warm where I live to wear it otherwise, but I ADORE this dress!

This dress in flax linen w/o sleeves costs $355 + $45 (shipping).

Also can be made of flax for $380 + $45 (shipping) - in any of the available colors.

  • Jennifer 06 of December 2014:

Hello! I have a question in reference to the "green sleeves" dress. This dress says it is made from wool. I wanted to know how thick of wool is it? I live in Texas and it can be very warm here, and I was looking at getting this dress for a summer event. Now I'm not sure if that would be advisable. Thank you, Jennifer

    ArmStreet team:

It's made of medium thick wool, which is quite warm. We can make this dress out of flax linen for $380 + $45 (shipping). To place such an order please email us at contact@armstreet.com.
