Finger Gauntlets “The King's Guard”

Hourglass gauntlets, leather exterior

This is an exclusive version of our knight's finger gauntlets for late XIV century “The King's Guard” armour kit. Our finger gauntlets are already well-known among Reenactment and SCA communities, but here we are presenting this line of products in its' very pinnacle.

Hourglass type gauntlets are probably the best choice for the people who prefer to fight in finger gauntlets. They provide great protection as well as good flexibility and “sense” of sword or weapon's shaft. At the same time they are inherently sturdier and easier to take care compere to the later types with more pronounced joint articulation.

The gauntlets are made from stainless steel: 16 ga (1.5 mm) for the main plate, 18 ga (1 mm) for the finger plates with 16 ga (1.5 mm) brass knuckles and finger tips. Exterior decoration of the main plate is following well documented late XIV fashion of covering the elements of the armor (including gauntlets) with dyed split leather, velvet or wool cloth. Brass decoration of the main plate with Latin inscriptions on the edges give to the gauntlets their rich and stylish look worthy of the most demanding medieval magnate.

We have a lot of pictures of our etched armour after several years of active fighting usage - don't worry, this armour is not only beautiful, but functional and with all those marks, dents and scratches it looks even better.

Safety disclaimer: Sword-fighting and fencing is a dangerous sport. Fencing, historical fencing, medieval reenactment and martial arts as well as other related types of activity, are inherently connected to a certain risk level of injuries or death. The Company declines all responsibility for any traumas or harm done to oneself or to the third person, along with any material or consequential damage, impaired during the products usage. We admonish that all acts with armour, weapons or their components have to be performed before designated person who is responsible for safety of the particular event and accredited to supervise armour and sport weapon conformance to the event’s standards.

Compare to our previous versions of our hourglass gauntlets version we made some upgrades improving gauntlets safety and ergonomic:

  • Deeper finger plates;
  • Deeper thumb plate protecting thumb's tip;
  • Improved shape of the main plate to protect inside of the palm and wrist;
  • Little finger plates angles of assembly and mounting to the main plate have been changed to protect outer edge of the little finger;
  • Leather inner gloves are included.

Decorations:

  • Etched brass knuckles and bordering;
  • Main plate covered with dyed split leather;
  • Curling wire decorations;
  • Handmade brass rivets with cast decorative heads;
  • Etched inscription on knuckles: “Dictum factum”(latin) — “What's said is done” (eng);
  • Etched inscription on brass border: “Contra iram inimicorum meorum extendes manum [tuam]” (Psalm 138:7, latin), which translates “Thou shalt stretch forth [thine] hand against the wrath of mine enemies”.

    Is it possible to get these without the suede on the outside? if so, can the brass trimmings on top stay?

    ArmStreet Team:

    Yes, it is possible. Please simply leave this request in the comment section to your order at the checkout.

  • Aaron Brenner 28 of November 2018:

    Is there a cost reduction of I would not want the latin etching on the brass trim?

    ArmStreet Team:

    Hi Aaron! Yes, of course, we can make 5% discount for you for the gauntlets without etching.

  • Josh 23 of May 2017:

    Can the brass be replaced with steel? And could have a satin finish instead of the steel?

    ArmStreet Team:

    Hi Josh, yes it is all possible.

  • Guenièvre 11 of April 2017:

    Would it be possible to order one in red and one in blue?

    ArmStreet team:

    Yes, of course, just mention it in the comments to your order.

  • George 27 of January 2017:

    Are your gauntlets able to withstand HEMA sessions?

    ArmStreet team:

    Many of our customers are in SCA and other associations, and they have a chance to try these gauntlets in fighting, so far we didn`t receive any complains. The gauntlets are legal for SCA and BOTN, guess they are also legal for HEMA.

  • Radar Goddard 08 of December 2016:

    Specific question about "Kings Guard" style hourglass gauntlets/ I am looking for a set of gauntlets, specifically the Right gauntlet, to joust with. Can you tell me a bit more about this style? Specifically, will it fit a small hand fairly snuggly? (think for a person about 5"5", with small to medium frame) also, what gloves are used?

    ArmStreet team:

    The hourglass gauntlets provide really good support for the thumb. Better support can be achieved only by taking away their flexibility, if the thumb plate and the main hand protection plate are one unit.
    The gauntlets go with the padded inner leather gloves. Regarding the fitting, we make the gauntlets according to a customer`s actual measurements, so the gauntlets can be made snug.

  • Alex Crump 07 of February 2016:

    Hello yet again. I am looking at getting at maybe getting a pair of these, but I had a question. I was wondering if, like the rondelles, the etched phrases could be changed. Thanks -Alex

    ArmStreet Team:

    Hi Alex, yes custom engraving is possible. Please contact our support team with all the details so we could calculate the price for you.

    Stitching was loose when I unpacked them, brass wire around the wrist snapped by itself. Haven't even worn them once and they are breaking appart. Very poor quality. Have sent them an email but no response yet.

    ArmStreet Team:

    Hello, we can see the order was sent in the middle of July (2 months ago).
    We are sorry we were not contacted when the product was received.
    If you saw it had a defect, we could exchange them.
    Now, after 2 months the order was received we cannot exchange it,
    but I'm checking with our armorer how it can be fixed.
